the court jester.......
Last night I had to appear before the judge in the city of Delafield, WI. Going
in, we were talking to the officer "on duty" that night - who just so happened
to be the same officer that gave me my ticket- and he told us what to expect
in court. I think his exact words were its kind of like a kangaroo court,
like Mayberry RFD ( for those that are of a certain age, we remember the
tv show). Oh, great. I found a seat and sat down. The judge appears and
takes center stage and proceeds to tell us how it goes.
There's guilty, no contest, and not guilty. Basically, we were told if this
was a first offense, and you plead guilty, than in all likelihood your ticket
would be reduced. So, when my name was called, I said in feeble voice that
I was here and walked up to the front of the room. I thought that at any time
some big arrow was going to point down on me with a big flashing sign -guilty-
guilty- guilty. But, sometimes you have to take your medicine bitter though it may
be. I stated guilty and the attorney reduced my ticket to obstructing traffic, which
is a non moving violation and reduced the points from 3 to 2. Relief. I'll
take it. No scarlet letter to wear around town. I paid my fine and left......
